The Frederick Chopin Society, based in the Twin Cities, was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1984. The Society held a five-day, all-Chopin Festival in St. Paul, MN in May of that year. Additional Chopin Festivals and occasional solo recitals were held during the following two years. Since 1986, the Society has presented a traditional fall-to-spring concert season and expanded programming to include the music of many composers besides Chopin.

Sedmara was selected to perform on the fourth night of the 1984 inaugural Chopin Festival.
